Winter at the Thomaston Dam The Thomaston Dam is part of a network of flood control dams and local protection projects built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Naugatuck Valley Basin. The dam was constructed at a cost of $14 million and completed in 1960. The 849 acres of land and water resources provide visitors with many recreational opportunities such as hiking, sightseeing, snow-mobiling, fishing and upland game hunting.
